Simply because when she was promoting the Yeezy campaign with the new Yeezy Runners, styling it with sweats and cycling shorts, she made it a something people wanted, and started, to wear. Yes, back then cycling shorts and high socks with chunky sneakers was fashionable but she brought it back. Everyone, including me, exclaimed "What are those?!" when #Balenciaga came out with Triple S 2017. Clearly others found the sneakers to be different. Celebrities like Bella Hadid, Rihanna Fenty, Tracee Ellis Ross, and many more started to wear them. That's definitely when they became a fashion statement. This type of style is versatile and can be dressed down or up depending on what you're trying to wear it with.
